Part 2

Why will becoming a Christian make my life better: Let me share a story with you There are two people on an airplane. A stewardess comes to the first person and says that if they put on this parachute the plane ride will be more enjoyable, in fact it will be even better. After a while the parachute starts to become uncomfortable and people around him are looking at him like he’s an idiot for wearing this stupid parachute. So far throughout this whole trip nothing good has come from wearing this parachute, so the man decides that its time to take it off. The second person is offered a parachute. This time they are told that he should wear this parachute because the plane is going to crash and the parachute will save you. He (lets just assume it’s a he) takes the parachute and puts it on gladly and goes back to his seat. He notices that it is uncomfortable but still he knows that it will be worth it so he fights through the pain, people around him start joking about how he is wearing a parachute, this time though the man actually tries to get the other passengers to wear a parachute as well.
The eventual plane crash is actually the crash to hell. The parachute that saves the man represents the price that Jesus paid for us when he died on the cross.
A lot of preachers take the line that if you follow Jesus your life will be better. The problem that I have with this is that there is no Biblical basis for this. This is just something that people think will happen. In fact a lot of time following Jesus will make your life harder, usually from the persecution from others.
